Holy Monastery of Agios Georgios Armas
The Holy Monastery of Agios Georgios, known as Armas, is built on a steep location about 8 km east of the community of Fyllas, possibly on the site of the ancient Myra, 20 km from Chalkida. Of its buildings, only the Katholikon was preserved, while the others succumbed to the decay of time and disasters. The exact year of the monastery's foundation is not documented, but it is supported by the inscription 1141. An inscription on the exterior eastern wall of the monastery indicates the year of its foundation as ZRME = 7145 from the world's creation, i.e., 1637. It is possible that the name of the Monastery (Armas) serves as an exact reference to this date (ZRME). However, it is also possible that this (1637) was recorded and the part that exists today is a later addition to the main church, a square-shaped structure with a dome resting on four corners, the windows received light from ancient pagan temples, as well as other materials. The church belonged to the category of registered monasteries with a dome and mostly with forty windows.
During the Turkish occupation, the Monastery of Agios Georgios was the spiritual center of its wider region. From its walls emerged the energetic bishops of Euboea, the visitors of Europe, and the presidents of the Holy Synod Neophyto Adam.
Behind the altar of the church, treasures were found inside a holy pot, sealed with a seal, containing relics of unknown Saints.
