Μονή Οσίας Ειρήνης μ.jpgHOLY METOCHION OF SAINT EIRENE CHRYSOVALANTO

The Monastery of Saint Eirene Chrysovalanto is a Metochion of the Holy Monastery of Saint George Ilion, which in 1990 was transferred to another Brotherhood under Abbess Chrysovalanti.

It is built above the Camps of our Metropolis, between the seaside villages of Rovies and Ilion, facing the serene Euboean Gulf and backed by the lush Valantio Mountain.

Besides the inner Church of Saint Eirene, the Monastery has two other inner chapels: of Saint Onoufrios the ascetic, celebrated on June 12, and of Saint Job the much-suffering, celebrated on May 6. These chapels are adorned with magnificent Byzantine frescoes.

In the Monastery's olive grove lies the renovated old Church of Archangel Michael, a former Metochion of Ilion Monastery, which celebrates on November 8. The Holy Archangel is considered the patron saint of the area, which has taken its name from Him (Taxiarches Ilion).

A large central Church of Saint Eirene does not yet exist, because the small Brotherhood does not have the financial means to complete the unfinished Monastery.

It is worth noting that this Monastery was the first of Saint Eirene Chrysovalanto with the new (corrected Julian) Calendar.
